The town of Thurman was formed in 1792 by John Thurman and originally included the areas that later became the towns of Warrensburg (in 1813) and Stony Creek (in 1853). It is bordered on the east by the Hudson River, by the towns of Stony Creek to the south and Johnsburg to the north, and by Hamilton County to the west.
Thurman is a local source for maple syrup and is home to SIX maple farms.
