Are you visiting in the summer? North Creek is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. There are many North Creek hiking trails as well as many others nearby where you can use North Creek as a base. There are small hikes in the village itself as well as many in the Wilcox Lake Wild Forest, in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness, and across the rest of Johnsburg. These trails are great for hiking and bird-watching, and wildlife-viewing. Many are also great for mountain biking and access to fishing areas and camping sites. Want to get right on the water? Whitewater rafting is a beloved local sport and both rafting and tubing can be arranged at several local companies, both in and near Johnsburg. Dunkley Falls is a great place to get up close and personal to a small local waterfall with a nice fishing hole, and the nearby Black Hole is a great woodland swimming hole for accomplished swimmers. Be prepared for a little climbing!
If you’d rather observe the water and other great scenery try a Revolution Rail railbike trip to the Hudson River Gorge!
In the winter visit Gore Mountain Ski Resort for a fantastic downhill skiing experience. With a vertical drop of 2,537 feet and over 400 accessible acres
spanning four mountains, it is the largest ski and ride resort in New York state. Don’t plan to only visit the slopes in the winter however! In the summer you can enjoy hiking, disc golf, mountain biking and scenic skyrides!
