Boating Regulations in the Adirondacks

It’s a great idea to check with local authorities on boating regulations. Some lakes and some home owner associations do not allow guests to bring their own watercraft or may not allow powered boats.

Also, be aware that the DEC in New York requires that the owners of all motorized boats entering the water in and immediately adjacent to the Adirondack Forest Preserve must obtain a certification that they have inspected and removed potentially harmful aquatic invasive species before launching and that their watercraft has been cleaned, drained, and dried. This must be done EVERY time your watercraft is launched in a new body of water. This is to prevent invasive species from damaging the unique environments present in most of our lakes.
