Hackensack Mountain Trails

Length: 4.4 miles of trails in three trail sets.

Hackensack Ave – Parking in on-street at the corner of Hackensack Avenue and Warren Street.
Prospect Ave. – Parking area near the top at the old town ski hill.

Note: there are three trail sets. The Summit Trail can be either an out-and-back from either of the two trailheads or be combined into a loop with the Purple Trail.

  • Summit from Hackensack Ave – .76 – .86 miles to summit A little more than halfway up you can choose the more energetic trail to the right (0.76 mi), or you can choose the less steep trail to the left and then turn right when the trail meets the Purple Trail (0.86 mi).
  • Summit from Prospect Ave – There are a couple loops at the beginning of the trail. At 0.28 miles the trail connects with the Yellow Trail Network and the Purple Trail, and continues another 0.6 miles to the summit, for a total one-way distance of 0.88 miles to summit. Just before reaching the summit there is a little side jaunt on the left leading to the Flag View.
  • Purple Trail – this trail starts 0.28 mi. from the south end of the Summit Trail and loops around the north side of the mountain where it reconnects with the Summit Trail 0.53 miles from the Hackensack Trailhead. The Purple Trail is 0.8 mile long.
  • Summit-Purple Trail Loop – From the south this loop is 2.07 miles. From the north it is 2 miles.
  • Yellow Trail Network – This is a complex of loops and connector trails that start from the high school and connect to the Summit and Purple Trails at three points. There are a total of 1.2 miles of trails.
